My Second Month Blogging Income Report

October 30, 2019 By bwomanthrive 8 Comments

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. WHICH MEANS I MAY RECEIVE COMMISSIONS FOR PURCHASES, AT NO EXTRA COST TO YOU!

I honestly can’t believe I am writing this blog post right now. Not to be over-dramatic or anything but I really never thought I’d be able to say it. I made money in my second-month blogging. $15.74 to be exact.

Now, I know that doesn’t sound like a lot and I’ll be the first to admit- it’s not. $15 isn’t even enough to fill up my gas tank.

But… It’s progress.

This is coming from someone who has been blogging for over a year and watched two different blogs fail. And then I make $15 a month in my second month of this blog?

Needless to say, I’m ecstatic.

I remember reading all of the blogging income reports I could get my hands on and thinking, “How the heck did they make money their first or second-month blogging?! What am I missing? Are they just lying?!”

I seriously thought there must be something fishy going on with those reports. And, maybe with some of them, there is.

But, I can assure you there is nothing fishy going on with this income report! I have seriously made $15 my second-month blogging! I can’t tell you how much joy that brings me.

Now, obviously, I said I have been blogging for over a year. And I will readily admit that this isn’t my first blog. It’s actually my third. But, I say it’s my second-month blogging because I only have started this blog two months ago.

And, honestly, I have a love-hate relationship with most income reports. I love seeing the progress bloggers make, but I feel like they just gloss over the important stuff and just clickbait you with numbers then try to sell you something.

So, with my income report, I’m going to go over everything you need to know! From the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Time to get off my little rant and let’s get to the numbers!

Traffic

First, I’d like to go over how much traffic I had in my second month. There is this huge misconception that you need to have a ton of traffic to make any money blogging. And… well, I’m living proof that it’s just not true.

I do not have a lot of traffic to my site. Here’s a screenshot to prove that.

Right below the red line is 20 views. I got less than 20 views a day. More like 10-15. And I still made a sale. As a matter of fact, the day I made the sale, I got a mere 15 views.

So don’t think you need thousands of views to make a sale! (Views help, but they aren’t everything!)

Most views: 105 in one day
Least views: 3 in one day
Total views: 660 for the month

Now since that’s out of the way, let’s get into how I made my first sale!

Income from September: $15.74

Here is a screenshot of the commissions I’ve made!

(P.S. If you’re wondering what the 1 cent is for, someone clicked on a Tailwind ad that showed up on my site. Apparently, you get a commission for that type of lead as well! hah)

Of course, that is obviously not a lot. (Spoiler: that didn’t help pay any of my bills) But it is a start! So how did I make that money?

Affiliate marketing. I sold a subscription to Tailwind (If you’re not using Tailwind to schedule out pins– you need to be!)

I do a lot of my affiliate marketing thought ShareaSale, which is basically like a 3rd-party company that works with companies like Tailwind and other stores as well.

Affiliate Marketing

This is one of the most confusing things I’ve had to do. It sounds really easy and you think you can figure it out on your own but honestly, it isn’t that easy to do. Most bloggers make you think it is.

Just throw a couple of links to products on your site and call it a day! Yeah… I wish.

That was the method I went with for so long, but it obviously didn’t work. (That’s why I’m on my 3rd blog and a total income of 15 bucks to show for it!)

I searched forever for how to make money blogging. I read and still read, all of the blog posts I could find on how to make money blogging and they were all the same. Brief overviews of the few ways to make money and that was it! Nothing more.

I was totally lost on how to affiliate market. I didn’t know how to do it, what to promote, what programs to join, how I was going to get people to buy or… literally anything. I wasn’t even that great of a seller.

Until finally I found this course, Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing. And I know what you’re probably thinking “Oh great, here’s the pitch. Here’s the catch to the whole post. She’s gonna post her affiliate link and try to sell me this course.”

And you wouldn’t be far off. Full disclosure, I am an affiliate for this course. But, there is a good reason for it.

This course freaking works.

You can’t tell me there is a coincidence between me buying this course and two months later making a sale after a full year of crickets.

I waited a long time before I was ready to purchase this course. As I said, I tried every free blog post and tool available on the internet to come up with an affiliate marketing strategy. And I quickly began to realize one thing.

People don’t give information on how to make money away for free. They clickbait you with big numbers, and dangle a carrot in front of you to get you to buy their course.

I knew if I was going to be serious about making money that I needed to invest some first. Making sense of Affiliate marketing was a big purchase. I won’t lie, it’s an expensive course.

But finally, after finishing the course and implementing the strategies, I made a sale. I have no doubt that this course will pay for itself in no time!

My Other Expenses

And now comes the part that many people leave out of their income reports. The expenses.

Unfortunately, running a blog comes with some expenses. Here, I will break down all of the monthly expenses I had this month on my blog. (NOTE: This doesn’t include yearly expenses that I have. I talk about all of those in my first-month income report if you’d like to check that out!)

Convertkit -$29.00

Right now my only monthly expense is Convertkit, the best email service out there in my opinion.

If you’re struggling to figure out email marketing and how email sequences work, Convertkit is the way to go! It is a bit expensive, but I still think it is worth it.

Unfortunately, that means that I am actually in the negative for this month. It sucks, but if I check out my last month’s income report, I am a lot less negative than I was before!

Last month report: -$196
This month report: -$13.22

Of course, that comes from buying less stuff this month but I still look at this as progress!

My goals for next month

This is a little section I like to add at the end of my income reports as a way to keep myself accountable for my goals, and as a way to track them too!

Last month, I worked on my social media strategy. Now I think I have a little better idea of what works and what doesn’t, so this month I plan to refine my strategy a bit.

I also reached my goal of making my first affiliate sale, so of course, I’d like to try and increase those sales for next month! I plan to implement more strategies that I learned inside Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing!

I’m also debating on investing in another blogging course. I’m a bit hesitant to invest in yet another course, but if I do I will definitely be letting you know how it goes!

I think that’s it for this month’s income report! Hopefully, this was helpful to you! Personally, it gives me hope for the future to finally see some progress!
